Busy At The Chamber

The Frio Canyon Chamber of Commerce met in their regular meeting Tuesday with a full agenda.  After the reading of the minutes and approval of the financial statement, Joyce Weston discussed the HCTC seminar.  Robin Albright reviewed the Fall Social and the ribbon cutting at Buckhorn Bar & Grill.

In new business, Sandy Lynam gave a report on the status of tickets for the Gun Raffle.  Jack Hallum told the chamber members, after discussions with current Lions Club members, the sign at the courthouse belongs to the Lions Club.  Hallum said they would be completing the renovation.  Judy Fisher discussed new ad space on the Chamber map.  Members voted to add additional ad spaces to the map and lower the icon cost from $75 to $50.  Those members that have already paid the fee will be refunded the difference.

New Vendor Rules were approved with amendments.  Linda Hassell reports the July Jubilee registration form and new vendor rules will be available online next year. Debbie Blalock announced several possible changes in the Miss Leakey contest, with the most visible being a name change to “Miss Frio River”.  Blalock said this will widen the contestant base and relates directly to industry of the Frio Canyon…the Frio River. She said she would like for the chamber to have a portion of the contest at the Annual Community Banquet schedule for April 10, 2010.  Blalock envisions a question and answer portion, with the contestants in sports attire.  In the finale, contestants would dress in eveningwear and the winner would be crowned by the Chamber’s citizen of the year. The meeting was running a little long so no action was taken.

Albright quickly reviewed several other items, Bike Across Texas, coming in March 2010…read more here.  Frio Fun is sponsoring “It’s a Concan Christmas”. Members voted to donate $350 to the Canyon School of Dance and $300 each to Frio Canyon EMS and Leakey VFD.

Dub Suttle told the chamber members the seller of the Rodeo Arena would be willing to owner finance the property and he felt the property would make a great events center.  The item was tabled until the next meeting. Suttle also announced Suttle & Co. will have a “Christmas Gala” on December 5, 2009 at the Frio Pecan Farm from 7 p.m. until ??
