Holiday Tragedy

12/28/09

A holiday accident took the life of a Corpus Christi teenager.  On Tuesday, December 22, 2009 the Frio Canyon EMS responded to a four-wheeler accident on private property north of Leakey.  Shortly after arriving at the Los Tres Canones Ranch on Ash Creek Road, FCEMS called for law enforcement. Real County Deputy Don Gass responded to the scene.  Local Justice of the Peace Brenda Gonzalez pronounced Anyssa Hinojosa, 17, dead at the scene.  The teen was the driver of the ATV (described as a mule type vehicle) and her 13-year-old brother was a passenger.  The 13 year old was not injured in the accident. Officer Gass said it appeared Hinojosa attempted to make a turn on the dirt road, hit a large rock and overturned the ATV. He said the case has been ruled an accidental death.

Anyssa was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was a junior at Incarnate Word Academy (IWA) at which she participated in volleyball, basketball and was a leader for the Mission Team. The Hinojosa family was vacationing in the Texas Hill Country for the Christmas Holidays.
