To the Citizens of Real County:

My name is Lisa West and I would like to congratulate Real County Treasurer, Kathy Brooks, on her retirement and thank her for the wonderful job that she has done for the people of Real County over the last 25 years. I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Republican nomination for Real County Treasurer. My husband, Steve West, and I moved to Camp Wood, Texas after getting married 29 years ago. We then relocated to several locations around the Hill Country before settling and making our home in Leakey in 1986. We have three grown children, Steven Jr., James and Alyssa.

I feel the position of County Treasurer requires someone not only with a very high level of experience in accounting, bookkeeping and human resources, but also with people skills and confidentiality, all of which I have been able to possess through the positions that I have held. They include managing the Welcome Inn, now known as the D’Rose Inn, file clerk at Middle Rio Grande Development Council (JTPA), Billing and Collections Clerk for Rolling Hills Health, file clerk at Pathways Youth Homes, Deputy District/County Clerk and Deputy Treasurer for Real County and Administrative Assistant at Leakey ISD. During the two years as Deputy County Treasurer, I was responsible for monthly reports, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, human resource records, and I also attended Commissioners Court with the Treasurer and acted on her behalf in her absence. I began my present employment with Leakey Independent School District in March 2005 as an Administrative Assistant to the Business Manager. My responsibilities include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, human resources, insurance, annuities, budget and personnel.

I have volunteered my time to numerous organizations and events throughout this community, some of which include Leakey PTO Secretary, Treasurer and President, Fall Festival, Project Graduation, Real County and Leakey ISD Relay for Life teams, and many other community fund-raisers and events.

The experience and knowledge that I have received through work and volunteer services over the past 24 years have prepared me for the position of County Treasurer. Therefore, I would like to ask for your support and vote in the upcoming Primary Election on March 2, 2010.
