EAGLES SLIP TO 2 AND 3 IN DISTRICT

The Leakey Eagles lost a heart breaker to the Comstock Panthers here Friday night in district 31-A action.  The loss dropped the Eagles to 2 and 3 in the district and into a three-way tie for second place.  Knippa wrapped up the district with a win over Utopia and that left Utopia, Comstock, and Leakey all tied for the last two spots.  The final score was 46 for Comstock and 44 for Leakey.  The Eagles enjoyed a ten point lead a couple of minutes into the fourth quarter and just like the last game we went cold from the field and the Panthers were able to take advantage and close the gap.  This is as close as the district has been as far as talent since I have been in Leakey.  All of the games have been close and that has kept the fans from going to sleep during the games.  We did a good job rotating our defense for most of the night and fatigue caused us to miss a couple of rotations and let Comstock have a couple open shots they were not getting in the first three quarters.  We just need to learn to rest on offense and not on defense.  Being able to close out games is a huge thing for us.  We seem to play better from behind than we do with a lead.  These kids love to compete and when we put a complete game together like we did at Utopia we are going to be a very tough team to beat.  I hope everybody appreciates the effort these kids put into each and every game.  I just ask that you keep supporting them and letting them know you are behind them no matter what.  Stay loud and encourage them on to victory.  Scoring for the Eagles was Blake with 17, Tanner with 10 , Marcus with 6, Mark with 4, Billy with 3, and Caleb and Drew with 2 apiece.  Next game is very huge for the Leakey Eagles.  It comes down to win and no matter what you are in the play offs.   Come and support your hometown Eagles.  Go Eagles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
