Last Thursday night the Relay for Life of Real County held its annual Kick-Off dinner at Alto Frio Baptist Encampment.  What a great night. Betty Jo Bates, emcee for the night, introduced the speaker, Dr. Chyle from the Hill Country Center for Cancer Care in Kerrville.  Dr. Chyle lives in Leakey and commutes to Kerrville.  He congratulated the Relay for Life of Real County for the continued support in the quest for a cure for cancer.  While continued research is needed, he explained to the audience the impressive and growing numbers of survivors.

The Relay for Life Committee members were introduced and the Goals for the 2010 Relay for Life to be held on April 23 and 24, 2010 were read.  Bates and Debbie Blalock performed the Hope Ceremony. After a great meal and great fellowship a sense of determination filled the room, plans were formed and a community set out on a goal sought by many….the cure for cancer!!
